Title: New Station Review & Feedback.
Post by: Phil23 on July 23, 2017, 05:05:18 AM
Hi All,

New Station installation completed a few hours ago & looking forward to feedback.
Station Number is 1928.

E-Field went in yesterday, about 150mm from memory.

First attempt at making a H-Field was completed a couple of hours ago.

To get started I made a 4 turn Moebius Loop with RG6 Coax.
It's just hanging in the outdoor area ATM & plan to re-site everything later in the week.
Right now the GPS is  shaded by a double iron roof.

Don't mind the idea of building another, better H-Field, but at least it's going now.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

 Thanks

 Phil.

Hi Phil,

Congrats on the build!!!!  I definitely see a 50Hz oscillation there in the spectrum, especially on the magenta E-Field channel, and to some extent on the green H-Filed channel. Is your system grounded at the control board? I had this issue with my Red system when we moved to our current home. Once I got it properly grounded, the noise level dropped substantially and the sensitivity improved immensely. My original location was in our storage shed. I ended up driving an 8 ft. long grounding rod into the ground and running a wire from the grounding lug on the controller through the wall of the shed (it is wood) and attaching it to the rod.

Is your H-field antenna shielded in any way? Is your network and coax cables from the controller to the antennas shielded?  I also realize where you currently have it located isn't helping. Once you get it away from underneath the metal roofing, that will help.

Hope this information helps and best of luck finding that "sweet spot" for the antennas.

No not grounded yet. Need to choose a permanent location yet, which may be near the Hot water system. Not sure if using a water pipe would work as the main feed to the house is high pressure poly pipe.

Is roof iron that is ultimately connected to posts bolted to concrete considered a valid ground?
(As in the structure the E-Field is bolted to. Or should I ground that structure with a stake).?

......running a wire from the grounding lug on the controller.......

Might need a pointer on where to ground the Blue System.

Wasn't sure what to do there.
The Mini guide shows both shields shorted together near the ends, but not connected in the Moebius Loop example.
Other examples I saw only had the shield shorted at the loop to complete the circuit, but one end of the shield connected to gnd.

That's something I'd like a bit more info on.

RG6 to the E-Field & Foil shielded with drain Cat5 to the H-Field.
Just a regular Cat5e back to the switch.

Cheers

Phil.
