Never seen it hit 112 by noon but it did today!  I knew once we hit 105 at 10AM, it was going to be a record breaker. Here in Mesa anyway the rule of thumb is if it's 100 by 10AM then it will be 110 or so.  Got up to 115.1, an all time record at the house. Most of the afternoon it was hovering around 114-115, not just a one and done deal.

Crossed 100°F at 0925 this morning after an overnight low temperature of 86°F at 0620, in spite of slight cloudiness.

From a news article I read today:

It was so hot that two forecasters with the Weather Service in Phoenix decided to demonstrate the oven-like temperatures Saturday and baked cookies on the dash of a 2008 Dodge van.

Two guys from the National Weather Service harnessed the power of the sun and took advantage of the extreme heat wave scorching the Western U.S. to bake up some fresh cookies on the dashboard of their car. TODAY's Dylan Dreyer reports.  “We were joking around that we should bake some cookies, because that sounds a lot better than frying an egg,” meteorologist Charlotte Dewey told the Los Angeles Times. “More tasty, anyway.”

One report recorded the temperature in the van at 200 degrees. It took about four hours to bake the cookies – when the temperature hit 116, the cookies were done. Apparently frying an egg on the sidewalk was seen as passé.

In an another unusual occurrence, commuter airline US Airways Express was forced to ground some planes out of Phoenix on Saturday afternoon when temperatures soared above 115, NBC station KPNX reported.

The extreme heat creates less dense air, which does not allow some planes to get the lift they need to fly, according to the station’s meteorologist Matt Pace.

I think  it'd be "cool" to see some photos of your extreme high temperatures on your weather stations. We sweltered here in eastern Ohio today with a high of 82 degrees and at one time had hail in a Thunderstorm nearly 1/2" in size.

We are currently experiencing wind gusts to 50 MPH and temps have dropped slightly.
We are sustaining with a ten minute average of 24 MPH.

Does not add up to a microburst but it does add some excitement to the evening.
Temps have already dropped to 85 with the slightest sprinkling of moisture.  Lightning in the distance...

In another article on CNN, it appears that 118F is the limit.

Quote
US Airways had to cancel 18 flights Saturday because of the heat, spokesman Todd Lehmacher said. He said planes are certified for takeoff up to 118 degrees, but the temperature crept up to 119 degrees in Phoenix on Saturday.

Looks like you are going to be in for more of the same for the next few days.  Let's see, 110F+ temps, hot winds, and blowing dust, certainly not my idea of a good time.

Quote
Showers and thunderstorms will develop over southeast and east central Arizona during the afternoons and early evenings the next few days. Outflow boundaries from this activity will likely produce localized gusty winds and areas of blowing dust over portions of Maricopa and Pinal counties. An increase in moisture will slightly dampen the rise in afternoon high temperatures, though readings will still climb above 110 degrees in the lower deserts. This has resulted in the extension of the excessive heat warning through Tuesday.

Today was much calmer but we did have neighboring T-Storm drop by and raise the winds to 30 MPH quite a bit of fun again....

Looks like our monsoon has indeed begun, with yesterday, 01-July, being the 1st of the requitive three-consequitive-days of ≥54°F dewpoint temps.

No longer. NWS changed that some time ago to fixed dates - 15 June - 30 September. Makes no sense to me...
