Flat ethernet cable
« on: November 28, 2010, 12:42:48 PM »
anyone have any experience with a flat ethernet cable?  The make them and I want to run it from my DVR to my modem.  Flat would work better than round as it goes under a door, but..  I don't want to buy it if it is no good

I have an 8 foot flat cable connecting my DSL modem to  wireless router.  Works flawlessly.  Frankly, I am not suer why it is not used more.  Cost probably.

that is what I am talking about.
I can order one.
I have direct tv  and for some of their movies, they send them via internet rather than satellite .  Normally I would drop the line down into the cellar and run the cable under the floor and bring it up tothe router.  However.. the room where the dvr is is over a crawl space and it is heck to get into that and snare the cable and so on.  so I figure if I run the cable along the wall molding and then to the router, things should be fine.

I much prefer them too, more durable and less likely to get mashed.

The local Princess Auto (like Harbor Freight stateside  ;) ) has the Phillips brand in their surplus aisle, looked neat, but I'm set on Cat5e or WiFi for network connections. Just wonder what would happen to the electrical characteristics if something metallic was placed on top of the cable, I know it would affect the capacitance in the least, probably killing the possible bandwidth of the cable.  #-o ;)

Now I want to get some to run tests on it!  #-o ](*,)

Will one of the newer wireless "N" routers and cards give you the speed and bandwidth instead of running cable?
