Ferrite antenna placement
« on: September 14, 2013, 10:26:33 PM »
I bought the ferrite antennas from Egon and want to know if anyone has tried placing them in an attic? The attic gets pretty hot in the summer. If I can, do I also place the board there and run a cat 5 cable to my PC?

Thanks,

Joe

Joe,

The ferrite antennas themselves should have no problem with attic temperatures.

I was more concerned about the electronics. The PGAs have a 125C rating and everything else seems to be rated to 85C (industrial temp). On the cold end the parts look to be good to -40C.

I saw some references about attic temperatures hitting 180F which is close to the rating. If you have effective roof vents I would think that it would be lower than this.

Joe,

I see that you are in Ohio. The info I found that mentioned the 180F was out West.

Hi Greg,
Yep, right where the Greyhound bus flipped over yesterday. I was more concerned with the performance than the temp.

Thanks for the information.
