Superior Mirage
« on: July 03, 2011, 06:15:16 PM »
We have a phenomenon that happens in Puget Sound called a superior mirage.  Yesterday we had a pretty good one and I took a pic.  I sent it in to Cliff Mass who is the head of the Atmospheric Science department at the University of Washington and also writes a great blog.  Today he wrote about this and I thought I'd share.  I found it interesting because he does a great job of describing it.  The picture is of Bush Point which is 7 miles away and is all no bank waterfront.  Here is the link: http://cliffmass.blogspot.com/2011/07/superior-mirage.html

When my neighbor moved in several years ago I had her convinced that they were building 10 story condominiums in Mutiny Bay straight acroos from us.  The highest building over there is a two story beach house.

Thought I'd share,
Greg

Great picture Greg!  And a very nice write-up in the blog.  Hope you get some hits from it.  I had never heard of a superior mirage before.  I wonder what I be thinking if I saw what looked like a ferry boat flying above the water! #-o
    Thanks for the post!

I really like how Cliff jumps on some of the little known facts about our local environment and explains them in a way that we all can understand.  He has a very good blog that is well read in this area.
