First Anemometer Freeze Up
« on: April 07, 2009, 07:36:18 AM »
Oddly enough with no more precipitation of any kind than we had my anemometer has frozen for the first time overnight.
Since I don't readily have access to a Super Soaker today( but do have plenty of WS washer Antifreeze)I guess I'll have to wait for the spring thaw next week and let mother nature do her thing :)

Forecast is not promising for any warmer temperatures or much sun until possibly Sunday here so it'll likely be the first of the week before nature takes it's course.. all that provided I do not get disgusted waiting on the spring thaw and take down the mast and do it manually LOL!

I'm ready for more warm weather anyway :)

I had a freeze up as well.  Temp at the freezing point the next two days, so unless we get a good sunny spell (not forecasted) I will be winded till Thursday.  would need a super super super soaker to have the range to hit mine....

Spring / summer modification projects
-FARs
-Grounding and while I am up there, I am going to run some quarter inch drip system irrigation tubing up to anemometer, and put a spray end on it, so I can be ready for ground level de-icing next winter.

Mine was still spinning when I got up. But it may not last. If it does freeze. We will be back in to 40's tomorrow. So it shouldn't be frozen long.

Thanks,

Last time mine froze, I made good use of the wife's "hair dryer on a stick" idea.  Worked great.

I seriously thought about that BUT my stick is not long enough... Time to catch a bucket truck in my area :)

got my wind back just before 12:40pm, not above freezing, so I guess there was a bit of sun up at my house and it melted the ice enough for it to start turning, stiff breeze helped also.

Andrew

ps: Wayne, your signature graphic is showing wind as well, so looks like you melted also

Andrew,
Sounds like yours came back to life about the same time as mine did !
The sun did peek through for maybe half an hour here today just around mid day so that must
have been what did the trick :)  Temps were a bunch warmer than I have felt all day anyway for some reason.

I have a fairly tall step ladder so now I need to invest in one of those "wasp poles" to work an aerosol can remotely and lube it up
again with some silicone spray.. I have had good luck with the Mitsubishi service parts version it actually smells good and hangs in there well with
frequent water. The smells good parts not much concern outside but it's nice in a confined space :)

At any rate glad we are both showing wind again!

There's an off color joke in there somewhere possibly involving Red Green.  But I'm not going to look for it.

Yes, between Wayne's "STICK" and josh's "pole" (re-mounting thread) there are a lot of "openings"

OH MY!   As my now deceased Grandmother use to say when she was subjected to an embarrassing situation.
