TV Weather Forecasting Software
« on: August 27, 2014, 12:10:53 PM »
Hello Gang was courius, I was looking for, Um do you know what you see on the weather when the 7 day forecast comes up and you see the animated rain and or sun and snow exetra and the temps yadda yadda, Is there a starter program for free that beginers can use to get started to use this and test there skills out. And I don't want forecast simulator I wanna put the sun in along with the temps and so on like the weather men do. Any ideas every one?

I do not remember a name of the software that the students used at the school that I went to but I believe it was the same set up that was used by the local NBC affiliate. However from doing a quick search two pop up. The first one is a package that's been developed by Accuweather: http://storyteller.accuweather.com/weather

the other is one from a company called Weather One: http://www.weatherone.tv/solutions/viking/viking.html

Both of which really aren't something a personal weather station user would probably use due to costs and due to the fact that I just don't see that being a huge market but I could be wrong. Also if you want I could ask some of my friends from college who are in that side of the business to see what they say.

Or my friend Chris who runs the following site could probably tell you what he uses as well.

Or if you are a facebook user

I somehow missed your post about Front Painter so I apologize. I was able to find some more examples of what the tv weather pros are using but again I don't think they are meant for personal use but it's something to look at.

From WSI there is Max Weather: http://www.wsi.com/products-media-television-maxweather.htm

Stream Labs has suggestions at the bottom of this page: http://www.stream-labs.com/solutions/graphical_broadcast_design.php

And my personal favorite that really doesn't have anything to do for weather forecasts but allows you to get satellite images of your location if you help the University of Wisconsin-Madison Space Engineering Group with their cloud imagery work using an Ipad/Iphone app.

My friends however that I talked to briefly though said they can't even think of a product that is out there to do the thing that you want for personal users. They suggested Photoshop or some other Adobe product because any of the animation that you're seeing on air is from a product that includes a flash image for the falling rain/lightning or sun, etc that all they have to do is drag and drop.

Sorry that I know that's not much more of a help but it is unfortunately what it is.

You could learn PHP, and use the animated GIF icons out there and get something like this:

http://wx.sloweather.com/forecast/forecast.php

(Just the forecast block not the rest of the page, and sorry, I'm not using the animated GIFs.)

You could always go to this site http://metgraphics.net/forecast-templates/ which has many many graphics packages and icons, maps and so on you can purchase to use. Next to nothing is "free" anymore to sample, use or whatever.

Here is the firedangerWD.php script. Change the file name to php instead of txt. The icons are also attached. This works with Weather Display reading from the clientraw.txt file.

Maintain your site yourself. A lot of people on this forum was just like you when they first started out. Ask questions and people will help you including myself.

Understood. I myself use his 5 day template and purchased a set of static icons off of him. Here is the final result. I use power point and am totally ignorant to Photo Shop and Gimp. If you wish to know more just let me know. Good luck. This was my 5 day graphic I worked for today's report.

I used to spend a lot of time looking for weather broadcasting software. I couldn't find anything!!! I eventually found this site that makes excellent weather forecast powerpoints. I bought one for something like $30. I did some tinkering and changed colors and some formats. I love it. I am a teenager so I can't pay big money. I love this powerpoint. If you are experienced with ppt you can actually use shapes to make your own. I'll post a 7 day forecast that came with the original purchase. And if you go to google you can search for "sunny weather icon" and save it or copy and paste to make a forecast.
