Error - Could not create the rain database
« on: December 28, 2016, 11:29:20 AM »
Rain Database was totally mashed so I deleted the rain.db
WeatherLink offered to create a new one and I got the following:

Error - Could not create the rain database

Looks like phone call to Davis...

I don't recall ever seeing a mashed file.  What did it look like?

What OS are you running?  Any recent updates to the OS or security software?

The rain.db file was reporting years with 8 digits... Way too far in the future for me
and the rain amounts were in hundreds of inches again way too much for Arizona
Windows 10 - Usual Thursday updates

Davis answered the call very quickly and we tried some of the old tried and true methods
Delete rain.db (I had already tried that several times), delete DataLists.DAT & DataSets.DAT all with no fix...
So I start browsing the records for corruption and found the year 2008 was giving very strange results for Dec 1 through Dec 2, 2008.
So I deleted the 2008-12.WLK file through Browse-Delete Records-Delete-Month 2008-12
Restarted WL and told it to create a new rain.db and it created an excellent DB with Dec 2008 missing
I then replaced the 2008-12.WLK with a Backup I created in June 2016 (June to ensure I got way in front of the corruption).
I imported Dec 2008 and all is good in the WL world again.

Thank you, Davis for your efforts and answering so quickly.

Randall

PS - Yes I am thankful the corruption was so close to the beginning of my search as going through 8 years of data would no have been fun...
