Davis aerocone VP2 flew off in high wind?
« on: June 04, 2018, 09:34:16 AM »
Hello all,

We had some thunderstorms overnight and apparently after a 49mph gust - the aerocone flew off my VP2.. has this happened to anyone  else ? I’m thinking of drilling some sort of set screw to the side of it.. :/

I would bet on user error.  I can barely get my rain bucket off!

LOL - I wish - but I'm sure it was pretty tight the last time I serviced it :/

Well either the wind was greater than 49 mph or it was installed incorrectly.  I cannot imagine how it would come off, given the keyed/slotted  attachment mechanism.

I've had wind gusts literally of cat. 1 hurricane strength over the last 11 years and neither my original rain cone nor my new aerocone have ever flown off.  As another person said in this thread, I find it difficult to get it off the ISS when I'm trying!

It would not have been properly secured with all feet inserted and fully rotated/locked in.

Agree. Mine's really difficult to get off as well.

My original cone was so difficult to remove that I eventually broke two of the four tabs off.  #-o The two remaining wern't even diagonal from each other, but on the same side and I used it for months until finally replacing it.

I'm going with user error as well. For me if it's locked in place, it almost takes the jaws of life to get it back off.

someone could have taken it off and then left in a hurry when you or someone showed up,     Lookie if you have the cone, put it back on and be happy. If not buy one and it should lock .
