Title: guest Versus user

It says 96 guest and 10 user logged in whats with that? :???: What are people just here looking for free weather support and not Contributing I think its ok to lurk but it would be nice if they were logged in.. #-o

Not all those guests are real. I have seen the times when the moderator has had to block IP addresses and hackers. The real guest lurkers will eventually become members if they want to participate.

I don't care if Guest are here just funny used to be more User then Guest on this forum    :-|

I always ASSumed that the guest count included various search engine robot crawlers from Google, Microsoft, et. al.....

True, all the above.

A 'guest' is anyone(anything) that accesses the forum without being logged-in.  Well-known search engine crawlers are listed separately (Google, Yahoo!, Bing...).

'Guests' have the ability to browse/view all the topics/postings, but not to view the member lists or member map.  Guests also cannot post or PM anyone.. logged-in members are the only ones allowed to post/upload attachments/send PMs.

The forum also uses several mechanisms to 1) greatly hinder spambot auto-registrations, 2) manual vetting to approve new registrations, 3) member/admin's vigilance to quickly id/eject a spammer from the forum.
