yup,shelf cloud is another name
e.g associated with a gust front/outflow boundary too
interesting there was no precipitation..but not have had enough height (but also the strong updrafts would have kept the rain drops suspended)
It rained .19 right after the wind blew in. The far west side of town got .59. Before the storm, a Facebook friend, who lives on the prairie about 20 miles to the WNW of me, messaged: "60-75 mph wind just just went thru, heading for you now, Stillwater! Watch out! It's nasty!" And later, "Neighbors across the road are working on their roof in the dark. I'm thinking the wind caused a bit of damage out here.. yikes!"
Meanwhile, later, a neighbor across the street from me had a tree limb fall on a car parked in their driveway. It dented the top.
Below is a panoramic photo of how the storm looked coming in. Other image shows top wind gusts associated with this line of storms. Infamous KFOR-TV weatherman, "Go South!", Mike Morgan on the 6pm newscast thought the line wouldn't make it very far across Oklahoma, due to it getting choked off by a cap and sunset. He was right.
